Wednesday, February 26, 2020 – Ash Wednesday Service, 6:00 – 7:00pm

Join us for a soup dinner followed by a service and imposition of ashes.

The use of ashes as a sign of mortality and repentance has a long history in Jewish and Christian worship, and the Imposition of Ashes can be a powerful nonverbal and experiential way of participating in the call to repentance and reconciliation. This practice is the historic focus of Ash Wednesday observance and gave the day its name. It is traditional to save the palm branches from the previous Passion/Palm Sunday service and burn them ahead of time to produce the ashes for this service.

Ash Wednesday signifies the beginning of the season of Lent which is the 40 days leading up to Easter Sunday.

Sunday, April 5, 2020 – Palm Sunday Service, 9:00am

Philippians    2: 5-11 Kings, Colts, Crowds, Cloaks and Kenosis

Palm Sunday commemorates the triumphant arrival of Jesus in Jerusalem and the beginning of the last week of his life.
Our service will include our Chancel Choir with trumpet and our Handbell Choir. Our Sonsingers (children’s choir) will sing a song from the perspective of a child watching Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem.

Thursday, April 9, 2020 – Maundy Thursday Service, 7:00 – 8:00pm

Candlelight Communion Service in Fellowship Hall, John 13: 1-17

Holy Thursday, or Maundy Thursday, marks the last conversation Jesus has with his disciples, a conversation grounded in what he calls a new commandment (mandatum in Latin, hence our English word “Maundy”). He illustrates and underscores the new commandment by washing their feet: “Love one another as I have loved you.”

Friday, April 10, 2020 – Good Friday Service, 7:00 – 8:00pm

On Good Friday, or Holy Friday (as it is known in nearly every non-English-speaking culture), we witness the execution of Jesus, recognize our ongoing complicity with the powers of death, and are called to enter the Great Silence of all creation in response to the death of our Savior.

Sunday, April 12, 2020 – Easter Service, 9:00am

Celebrate Life! on this Easter Sunday

Easter marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the ways we live into that reality, just as his disciples did. Celebrate with us as we lift our voices with the Phillips Community Band and Chancel Choir!
